Riverún

All roads lead somewhere. Some have led to adventure. Others lead travellers away from small hamlets in the middle of nowhere; Riverún is such a place.

"The Joeshoes? Yeah, I knew them. One of them got drunk and starkers and vomited into the weir. Don't think they would come to much, now I think on it."
—Davis Tell, Ways and Means; A humble landlord's tale

History

A market village in the barony of Calmore on the Abbatchtkan Continent, Riverun is a small place lying in the shadows of the Sarkane Mountains. It is a mining area, and houses the humans that pick the heavy labour that comes with the slate highlands. Previously led by Mereton Donfisk, it had a small part to play in the history of the adventuring group known as The Joeshoes. As a loyal part of the Empire of Abbatchtka, the village enjoyed the protection of the laws of the land and paid a modest tax and tithe to the Baron at Calmore. Its blacksmith, Jaynor Morris, was said to be an important smithy who was permitted to talk truth to power without fear or favour, and enjoyed the mystique that went with his place in society. The Tavern was run by Davis Tell, who was rumoured to be a Fence and Talent spotter (or Waymarker) for the Calmorian Way.

The Miners' company of Calmore was headquartered in Riverún when the goldrush was started by Ser Traintel's research into the Ruins south of the mountain range at the ruins of Tinch.

Layout

The village square is classic of the era, with a small village square bordered by the Mereton's house, the smithy and the local tavern known as The River's Fall. A small fountain is the centerpiece of the village and like most of the hamlets of the area has small brass coins carved with lovers' names thrown into it for luck.
