Rachael Croftson
Mistress Rachael Croftson is the wealthy matriarch of the Croftson Bank. Her family's wealth is long earned, with the official family history detailing a series of astute business decisions that may have more to do with risky adventurous decisions than any divine inspiration. Proceeds of the adventures was sufficient to allow the Croftson children to set up a small alchemical firm - one that eventually distilled the first mass-produceable* healing potions with the key ingredient of Phasemoth wings. Since those early days, the Croftson family cornered the market in Abbatchtka for various alchemical potions and artefacts, using the wealth that was generated to further the business and then as capital for speculative loans for up and coming entrepreneurs in need of investment. These early decisions paid off massively.
The other counting houses of Tallowmore soon took note of the Croftson House methodology and attempted to emulate it, often drawing the profession ire of Croftsons of the day. Despite imitations, Croftson's are reported to be the rock solid bank of Abbatchtka itself. Many links to the empire and empirical bureaucracy and the house finances the fads of the young emperor as they come and go.
Rachael Croftson is the current matriarch: she is thin, curly greying brown hair betraying her age despite her sleek and fashionable sense of style. She is accompanied by a professional gentleman of standing (The term "Butler" would be much too crass of a term to truly describe his abilities and professional demeanour. Rachael has survived multiple attempts on her life by assailants unknown.
As the leader of the Croftson Counting House, Mistress Croftson has a very high profile in society, and has multiple followers and hangers-on. Several events in the Abbatchtkan social calendar are run by the CVounting Houses of TAllowmore, or wish to influence the higher ranking members of the houses. As such, events are often lavish displays of excess; many attendees are searched and screened to prevent common folk gaining access to the great and the good. The Croftsons have negotiated the court and the court of public opinion successfully for many generations and remian the touchstone for how to conduct oneself in polite society.
The Croftson's Gentleman
The gentleman is a very well paid and looked after guide and butler to the Croftson family. His name is rarely uttered, even by the family themselves, and he appears silently the second he is required. His dress is impeccable in velvet and silks, his morning dress pressed in every appropriate way. His eyes are as grey as smoke, his full set beard groomed and disguising his emotions from dogged observers. He wears a signet ring of the Croftson's Counting House, and a gold tie pin is visible above the buttons of his expensive waistcoat and level with his silk pocket square. If called upon to read notes for the family, he dons a pair of half moon glasses from his inside breast pocket. He seems unfazed by any of the Croftson's demands or be high society's foibles.
